Most hobbyists think about their fish in terms of species, tank parameters, and feeding schedules. Fewer think about the world those fish came from before they arrived at a wholesaler, a store, or your door. The reality is that a significant portion of the freshwater fish available in the hobby come from regions of the world that are dealing with serious political instability, conflict, and economic hardship. That matters both for the people involved and for the long term availability of the fish we love.
At Fair Trade Fish, these are not abstract concerns. Who collects our fish, where they come from, and what conditions exist in those regions all factor into how we source and what we carry. Being an informed hobbyist means thinking beyond the tank.
